Introduction to Earthen Plastering with Brian Baker of Bohemian Earth Building

On the weekend of February 18th and 19th, Brian Baker, of  www.bohemianearthbuilding.com  will be getting down and dirty with the first 8 participants who sign up for this 2 day workday, workshop.  There is a flier on his web site with more information.  Accommodations and meals are provided and one day participants will be considered.  For now, we have 2 people signed up, so 6 slots are available.  Gifts to the farm for the food and lodging are on a donation basis, as is Brian's instruction.  This will be a great introduction to those who are interested in more sustainable, earth friendly building practices.  Call or Email for more information.

Fun in February!!! Express yourself in a loving way before the 14th!

Hey All.... Two things going on at the Farm this coming month...The first will be on February 11th at 11:00am I will be hosting a lunch.  All are welcome, just RSVP and let me know any food restrictions you may have.  We will start with a hike (weather permitting) and talk about anything that we would like to see changed in the world, have lunch and get to know one another, then write a letter to someone, some agency, some goverment official or some company.  In the spirit of the Season for Non violence, we will set the tone for making change, making waves, and making ourselves heard in a PEACEFUL WAY.  There IS such a thing as a free lunch, however, gifts to the farm are always gratefully accepted.  Please call (530) 620-7412 to RSVP.  Some of the Organic Lunch produce will be generously provided by Mama Earth Farm.

Season for Non Violence

Welcome all to the Season for Non Violence.  Starting today with MLK jr's Birthday.  I will be attending a kick off at Placerville town hall with Mary from Mama Earth Farm.  We will lead a peace song and look forward to kickin' it with like minded folk.  Things are quiet on the farm.  Flora, Fauna and Forrest have found a new home and Francine (one of the Nubian goats) will be heading to Elk Grove to be bred again.  We are still milking Florence and loving the milk.  The hens are on a cold weather laying hiatus and are grudgingly welcoming the rescue banty hen into the midst.  Wishing all a peaceful January and sending much love to all........ Getting back on track in the New Year

Well, after a discouraging several months in negotiating with the bank, and trying to figure out a win-win, I am looking at the Fannie Mae offer of re-amortizaton of the loan on the ranch to span another 40 years.  Not quite what I hoped for, as I will be a ripe ol 93 before the mortgage is paid off!  However, I am filled with a new energy, as I will be able to swing the payments and can move forward with Farm Shares and projects that were somewhat on hold.  We welcome Brian of Bohemian Earth Building to the Farm.  He has just completed a wood fired cob stove in one of the cabins..... and it is a beauty.  I can hardly wait to build a fire, put on a pot o tea, and kick my feet up and enjoy the warmth.  Well, I am hoping to have plenty of good news and events and happenings to share with you this year....... Happy New Year to all!!!

Ah, the Afterglow

Well, the Kindred Gatherers are gone, but lovely Dulcimer rifts still waft through the Canyon, along with fond memories of a stellar group.  We are sad to see our Wwoofer Minta go this fall, but she will be staying on for a little while longer and we will cherish the time.  The Blueberries and Strawberries are ON!  There are a few Rasberries on the new canes and Tomatoes are finally starting to ripen.  Minta did a seed to table project with Amaranth, and now it is one of my favorite crops, grown as a grain, but she harvested the greens (or magentas as it were) and stir fried them up with a little of our Mission Olive oil and garlic from the garden. MMMMmmmmmm.  We acquired a new hen and her chicks from a neighbor who's dog was eating a chick a day.  When the dogs mauled the mother, our neighbor showed up with a box, and now we are home to Fillus, the Auracana with her babies Fritzie and Freddy.  Flea was also a chick, who died under his mother's wing during the night, go figure, the circle of Life.  We are open to campers for the Labor day weekend.... the River swimming is fantastic.  We have been dog sitting Sage, who, although she misses her owner David, is having a good time in the country.  Well, just a stream of conciousness for now.... Love to all.... PS. Looking forward to meeting an Earth savvy new neighbor named Fred.... He is majorly into Wind and Solar power.... look him up under WinSol33....  Well, all for now...
